What is bioprinting?
Three dimensional bioprinting is the printing of organs using a three dimensional printer. Bioprinting is a process aided by the principles of stem cells, which are cells which can differentiate into any cell in the body. These cells are printed onto a mold made of a water based gel, and then allowed to grow and differentiate into the desired organ. Three dimensional bioprinting is a relatively new concept and still undergoing testing as a process, but has been widely successful so far. Traditionally bioprinting has been known to be fast, and has proven to cause less risk to the patient of rejection as in transplants.
